Bedrichov
The village Bedrichov
Bedrichov (Bedřichov) lies on the head water of the river White Nisa in the mountain valley in 707 metres above the sea level. The village was founded in the middle of 16th century deep in the mountain woods as glass works and flourished successfully until the beginning of 19th century. At that time it was unable to compete with more modern premises so it came to the end. In the same century a new phenomenon – hiking- emerged and consequently the village and the Jizera Mountains have been living off it. Tourist cottages, observation towers, tourist routes have been built. Thanks to the excellent surroundings condition (a tableland of the Jizera Mountains with its great snow supply) Bedřichov has become of the most important centres for winter and summer recreations and sports in the Czech Republic, sometimes called a gate to the Jizera Mountains. The most famous annual event is the competition called the Jizera´s 50 kilometres, whose track starts and finishes in the Bedřichov stadium.
Observation tower Královka
Královka – on the most famous observation towers in the Jizera Mountains, is located on the hill with the same name (859 metres above the sea level). The former wooden construction from the end of 19th century was rebuilt into a new stony observation tower in 1906. Its height is 23.5 m. In 1934 a large mountain house was added to the observation tower. Recently, the observation tower has undergone a major reconstruction. The observation tower and adjacent mountain cottage have been a welcomed tourist target.
The New Meadow (Nová louka)
A moor valley, situated 770 metres above the sea level with the hunter’s manor on the both banks of Blantský stream, has been proclaimed to be the state natural reservation. Former glass works and mansion of the owner of the glass factory were changed into a hunter’s manor after 1844. At present days a restaurant has been run there. The New Meadow is a famous junction of several tourist routes and is much-frequented during both summer and winter time.
The Bedřichov dam – on the river Černá Nisa
The reservoir was built between the years 1902 and 1905 and its area is about 42 hectolitres. The average depth is approximately 15 metres. The dam is a sought-after place of many tourists owing to its location and surrounding landscape. Moreover, it offers the possibility of tranquil bathing in summer time and cross- country skiing on the frozen surface in winter time.
