The town of Jablonec nad Nisou

The preset-day look of the glass and imitation jewellery, as Jablonec has been called, began in 16th century by the exploitation of available natural resources (sand, water, wood from the surrounding Jizera Mountains) and by the convenient location for trade. The development of glass-industry was replenished with the first imitation jewellery products in the first half of 18th century. The increasing wealth contributed to the fast rise of the settlement which was designated a market-town in 1808 and a town in 1866. The prosperity of the town can be seen in preserved district of secession buildings and private villas. Despite of the problems in the period of economic crisis, the great number of significant buildings was constructed (the Town Hall in the Peace Square, the Castle of Nejsvětějšího Páně in the Upper Square). The Museum of glass and imitation jewellery is situated in one of the exhibition secession buildings and offers an exposition of coinage to be seen as Jablonec nad Nisou is the place where all our current coins have been monetized.
